Living in Karratha

Karratha - a bustling regional hub

Karratha, meaning ‘good country’ in the local Aboriginal language, is the youngest and fastest growing town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia’s North West. It’s located 1,535 km north of Perth, in the heart of the Central Pilbara Coast near the port of Dampier, and was established in the 1960s to service the growing iron ore industry.

Today, this bustling town within the Shire of Roebourne boasts all the amenities a modern community could wish for. In addition to the largest shopping centre in the Pilbara, Centro Karratha, you’ll find a vibrant social scene, excellent schools and impressive medical facilities, including Nickol Bay Hospital.
